Simple programming and editing tasks are easily mastered, and the manuals are very well written.
The way you program isn't much harder, it's the fact that there is so much more to it - so many parameters.īut don't let this turn you away. VAST and KDFX have almost endless possibilities - most Kurz users will never use them to their fullest potential, or even come close. They ARE very complicated, much more so than the big three, but you get so much more in return. Do you thing the same? It is quite easier with motif xs88? thank you I have heard that editing and programing is very complicated with kurtz. To those one who know both sistems.(kurz and yama). Sometime next spring, the PC3K will be released, same size, all the same functions, plus the ability to load K series samples (about 80% of them without needing to edit them) and a new sample memory system that preserves the sample conents through power down. I might like the new Agant Grande from Yamaha better for pure piano sound, haven't yet heard it, and the price is a 5 digits instead of 4. Even though my firm was an Authorized Service Center for Yamaha for about a decade - the CP300 was the only serious contender, and I can't lift it by myself and move it about like I can my PC3X. Factory support has been well above norm. I am not connected with the company in any way except as a very well satisfied customer. The first two are left at my church gig, the 2X is a family "piano" in the living room. I also own some older Kurzweils: K2000VP, PC2, and PC2X. My first synth was a Prophet 600 back in the 1980's.
I serviced instruments for years, I compared the Kurzweil with all the similar priced instruments at the time from Yamaha and Korg (I had personal issues with Roland from a service perspective), and decided that I liked the Kurzweil sound and method of working better. My present gigging setup uses the PC3 as the main board, and the 2661 if I want a second board (I like using two boards better than doing a lot of splits and zones on one board). I liked it well enough to also buy a PC3 76 key for gigging eleven months after getting the 3X.

I still use it in my studio as my primary practice instrument, and occasionally gig with it, when I am doing something that the full 88 key weighted action is neded. Sound wise, I got my PC3X as one of the first 65 in the US, back in March of 2008. The entire programming concept is more versatile, but assembled using basic blocks instead of pre-built functions. Kurzweil uses a considerably different type of design from the big 3 (Yamaha, Korg, Roland). Best of my knowledge, the PC3 is the only instrument that can presently go to 32 layers, with any layer connected into another layer. The PC3X sounds are quite a bit better (imho) than the 2600 series sounds.
